■
I’m Magdalaine Davis. I’m a West Lafayette resident and a proud Purdue University graduate. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Political Science in December 2024 and am currently pursuing a second bachelor’s degree in Sociology. Along with that I am a proud Navy kid. Go Navy Beat Army!!
During my political science degree, I worked with the Law and Conflict Lab, where I discovered a passion for research. In my own time, I research the weaponization of sexual violence, which has become the focus of many of the papers I write.
Outside of school, I enjoy going to the gym, hiking, and reading a good book. I also love spending time with my boyfriend, Avery Willson, and our two cats, Hemingway and Fitzgerald. If you ever see me out in the community, feel free to come say hi—I love learning new things and meeting new people.
Decision To Run
Back in May, Anthony Hustedt-Mai mentioned to me that he was launching a campaign to run for U.S. Congress. Given the current political climate, I knew I wanted to join the team. Although Hustedt-Mai later suspended his campaign, we continued discussing potential offices that I should consider running for.
After attending a West Lafayette City Council meeting, I began taking a closer look at the issues facing our community. Many of the issues affecting our amazing district stem from decisions being made at the state level. After a pep talk from Hustedt-Mai, I realized I could be part of the change we need in Indianapolis.
As an academic researcher, I am committed to making decisions grounded in research and guided by the Constitution and the voices of my constituents. I believe we need term limits, following the precedent set by our first president, George Washington— 8 years in office since some have different term lengths. I plan to uphold this principle and to be held accountable. It would be my honor to serve the great constituents of Indiana House District 26.
